More new toys!

So the other new toy is another Ford Puma - this one is a Thunder special edition in Magnum Grey, with a 6 CD autochanger and rear parking sensors. Other than that (and the absence of a passenger airbag), it's pretty much identical to our other Puma (aka Xena, the Panther Black special edition), with significantly less miles on the clock. Note to self - must change Xena's clutch when she next gets serviced! The new car needed a name - her number plate starts with FY, so we've named her Fray after the lead character from a short story by...

New toys

Let me begin by saying that there should be something to stop me from being delayed in an airport with a Dixons. It's just dangerous - previous impulse buys in that Dixons have included a digital camera and various PDA accessories. Now I have a Creative Zen Touch 40Gb MP3/WMA player thingie. It's very lovely and it's currently half full (having synched the whole of my music library onto it). Seems to be pretty easy to use, though I've not had much chance to play with it since I bought it. I may get more chance to play with it...

SCI FI renews Battlestar Galactica

Most excellent news to start the day - the utterly brilliant Battlestar Galactica remake by Ron Moore has been renewed! The SCI FI Channel has renewed its hit new series Battlestar Galactica for a second season, the network announced today. [Via GateWorld News] If you've not seen it yet, it's a fabulous piece of television - the characters have depth, and the space / sci-fi bits are purely coincidental to a storyline that has more to do with the impact of the loss of the majority of a civillisation and the struggle for survival. Drains, planes and automobiles

We have a mostly blocked drain. It's at the stage of spewing out water when we shower, or when we wash up, or wash clothes - you get the idea. I called Dynarod this morning in an attempt to get it fixed and did some work at home while waiting for his arrival. It turns out that whoever built the utility area in our house got a bit carried away with concrete, and there's not a lot the drain man can do until we remove the concrete from around the drain. funnily enough, we're a bit short on pneumatic drilling...

Next to nothing

Bargains galore today - finally remembered that there's a Next seconds / clearance shop in Birmingham, so thought we'd head over to take a look. Lo and behold, not only do we find the pyjamas that James wanted to get me for Christmas (the ones he found were in the wrong size), but we also acquired a smart coat for me, a new suit for me (in the right size - hurrah!) and two pairs of trousers for James. Having recently had to alter some suit trousers because I'd lost more weight, having a pair in the right size is fantastic....

My lucky day...

What a mad day I've had. I started off arriving at the station only just in time for the 8:10 train to London, to find out that the 8:10 was cancelled. Hurrah - no need to run down the stairs, and a decent excuse in case I was late. As it was, I got on the 8:40 - had to stand all the way to Coventry, but managed to grab a seat for the remainder of the journey. Sat there and polished up my slides a little on the way too. Arrived on site at 10:30 exactly and sat down with the...

Nice surprises

So there I was this morning, stuck in traffic, bored bored bored. Then I grabbed the first CD I could reach from my glovebox. Thought it was the new Green Day album I've been meaning to listen to, but no, this was Dookie. Listening to Basket Case on the A46 made my morning :) And now I have a day to finish the preparation work for a workshop session I'm giving tomorrow on Office, Outlook, Sharepoint & Infopath. So far, I've learned how to use w.bloggar... [Listening to: Lifelines - a-ha - Lifelines (04:18)]

Head vs Heart

It's that (possibly) familiar sensation of knowing you can afford something, but it's just so expensive that your head jumps in and says "what the hell are you thinking?!" . I want versus I need. Fun versus practical. grr. I _want_ a Mazda MX5. I'd like the one we drove on Sunday. Unfortunately, these things are not cheap. Add to that a hard top and whopping huge insurance, and you get the picture. I can afford it. I could go out and buy it tomorrow. Unfortunately, my head jumped in and reminded me that I would like to move house, and the funds...
