So, Enterprise will be the last we see of Star Trek for a while. As a bit of a trek fan myself (DS9 being my favourite), I'm very glad they're taking a break. They had such an opportunity to make a difference with Enterprise and tackle some of the interesting stories of how and why the federation was formed, handling the politics that must have dogged the universe prior to the Kirk & co five year voyage. What a waste they've made of it. There's been good moments throughout, but I really can't say I've warmed to any of the...
Two good things have happened recently that I just wanted to mention.
One is the absolutely fantastic reworking of Doctor Who - who'd have thought that ickle Billie Piper could be so convincing and unannoying! She's done a superb job in just one episode. Mr Eccleston makes a fabulous Doctor - such a damn shame he's just announced that he's not giong to do more than one season.
The other good thing is the positive impact of the celebrity - for once, someone's made a difference through their fame. Jamie Oliver has done a fabulous job in raising awareness of the problems...
I've done a fair bit of travelling in the past few weeks, and since both cars in the family have whizzy radios, I can turn on that travel announcement feature and get local travel news interrupting all of my albums. A useful feature, if you happen to be travelling a long way. Indeed, a couple of times on the way home I've been warned of a nasty blockage and managed to avoid it. However, more often, one of two things tends to happen.
I get the travel bulletin 5-10 seconds after passing the junction I needed to get off at before...
When you have a nasty tickly cough bug that stops you from doing pretty much anything more strenuous than sitting in front of a computer, it helps to have fun things to play with and to read. And it's a well known fact that if you sit me near a computer for long enough, my Amazon shopping basket will start to fill up. With Stargate SG1 season 8 DVDs emerging in the shops, and the fantastic news that the Battlestar Galactica remake Season 1 box set is out in just over a week, I've managed to fill up a very...
So the Look Around You finale finally aired - and yes, I was in it. Sllightly hidden from view, I was fairly visible in the Synthesizer Patel interview and subsequent dancing...
So if you saw it, I do hope you laughed at us all making silly fools of ourselves :) And aside from that, it was actually a damn funny episode with many bits that reminded me more of the original series, which, if you haven't seen it, is an absolutey brilliant parody of late 70's early 80's educational science programming.
I've spent the past day and a half at work building up some barebones base-build VMs (Virtual PC virtual machines). That's a _long_ time to spend watching progress bars, but it's the sort of task that you can only really do when you have some downtime. And I have an ulterior motive - I need to get a working version of the VWD beta installed and running so I can test out the latest offerings from Microsoft, and so I can get on with writing my next chapter for the Beginning ASP.NET v2 rewrite.
It's strange how much I've come...
