I've got a little bit more time left before I reach my next milestone, and I'd not really thought about it much until last weekend when James and I decided to walk up Snowdon. Absolutely fantastic day all in all, with gorgeous sunshine and, although it was a little hazy, there was no real cloud around, so we were treated to some spectacular views as we walked through the snow to the summit!
I've never done anything quite like that before, and I'm really rather glad we did it. I spend a fair amount of time at the gym, but I don't get much chance to do the sort of exercise that a good steep walk can give you, and James rarely puts on a pair of trainers these days, so the fact that we both made it up AND down in one piece was reassuring.
The only ill effects we suffered were extremely stiff and achy muscles for a couple of days (I've just got to the point where I can stand up without wincing) and a bit of a case of sunburn. If someone had told me before we left that we'd need suncream in April in North Wales I'd have laughed. Damn good thing the sun wasn't stronger or we'd have been in real trouble!
So, back to the subject of my posting. I'm not particularly bothered about the semi-imminent arrival of 30 - it's still over a year away, but that just means I have plenty of time to do some cool stuff before it happens. I've climbed (ok, walked) up a mountain. I've done quite a few other things too... got married, bought a house, written chapters for books and articles for websites, lost weight, spent time on two continents, gained a small amount of competance in French, Spanish, Portugese, and Italian (in descending order, and the last two are really just phrase book competance), I once rode a horse, I've been karting, flown a plane, been in a helicopter... but I'm sure there are many other cool things I could try to do before I'm 30 - any suggestions?
