Revenge of the whinging teen

"It's not fair, why can't I be a Jedi master? I'm going to sulk now - you guys are just wrong, plain wrong. You all suck, and I hate you all."

Hmm. Ok, first of all, don't worry - I'm not going to reveal any plot developments in here about the latest Star Wars that you don't already know. However, I do have to vent my feelings on this ... thing.... this... messy, noisy, cacophony of computer graphics and dot-to-dot plot that was supposed to ease the transition from the first three films to the second three (or is that the other way around?).

I admit, there are quite a few good moments (though I ended up laughing more at the plot and the dialog than I think the director would have intended). I liked the way certain aspects of the plot were handled, and I liked the last 5 minutes. In fact, I would probably say that the last 5 minutes were fantastic. But I still didn't give a damn about Anakin, and I didn't find his turning to the dark side to be believeable. Why did Lucas introduce yet another bad guy in this film? He was completely pointless - The Count would have sufficed in terms of evil sith bad guy (though his entrance had me in fits - this is Christopher "old enough not to have to pay for his TV licence" Lee we're talking about, but I digress). Complete lack of decent female characters yet again - Padme just walking around with pretty dresses and a cushion and not even a trace of pregnant woman waddle (even ends up running to her ship at one point!) and (very minor spoiler approaching) the sole female Jedi master being shot in the back without even an opportunity to whip out a lightsaber - woo.

Mildly better than the previous two, but still nowhere near as good as the originals.

I went on Sunday afternoon; 4:30 and almost full. It was OK. I too didn't believe in Anakin's switch - it just wasn't dark, nor long enough of a struggle. That's all the film should have been about, and there were too many things that just didn't really affect that. The whole business of the clone general was nice to look at but completely uninvolving as you knew what was going to heppen
