Boston Legal

James and I have yet to find a single one of our friends who has discovered the absolutely fantastic Boston Legal - the inspired US legal drama currently showing over here on Living TV. Having seen one of the best ever episodes the other evening, I feel compelled to enthuse about it to you all because I truly believe it to be one of the finest exports from the US to arrive on our shores in recent years.

First of all, Bill Shatner is an absolute star - his performance in BL is nothing short of brilliant. His delivery is superb, and the range and depth he manages to convey really did surprise me. And he's just perfectly placed in a role next to James Spader, who is equally amazing and endlessly entertaining. The two of them together is one of the best double acts I've seen in recent years, and hats off to whoever saw it would work.

I have to admit, the main reason I started watching this show in the first place was because of the obvious Star Trek (and Stargate) links; Rene Auberjonois, who was fantastic for seven years in DS9, also joins Bill on the BL crew, and is perfectly cast in his role as Bill's boss. And the rest of the cast, who I'd not come across before, do a great job of enhancing the show so that it has a great mix of characters, and witty, fast-paced dialog that leaves you grinning like a fool from ear to ear some times, laughing like a loon at others, and, occasionally, sitting quietly and reflecting.

I want to buy the DVDs as soon as I can. Shame they're not even available in the US yet!

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to take William Shatner seriously again because of:
[1] Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
[2] Shatner's Bassoon and - most of all
[3] Those synapse-defyingly All-Bran adverts.

And don't get me started on Deep Space Nine characters in other programmes - the actor what played that Ferenghi Quark chap turned up in some sit-com and it almost melted my brain.

I'm a simple man.. clearly :D

Completely agree about BL, it is one of the best shows I've seen in recent years! It's a real shame to hear about poor audience ratings for the first season in the US, but hopefully the second season (staring in September in America) will pull in more fans! And if the show gets a terrestrial showing over here (probably on channel five) then all the better!

I watched BL on LivingTV too and I have to say its one of the best lawyer dramas I've seen probably since LA Law.

I just watched what I think is the last episode for series 1 and I'm shocked, what can I say it was a brilliant but tragic episode, definately leaving it open for series 2.

Please, please tell me there is a series 2.

I like the characters of Denny Crane, Donny Crane, Alan, Sally (but she left), Alan's secretary, Betty White is the actresses name oh and Bernard (the murderer) and the old virgin judge. I quite like the new girl, Chelina and of course Lori.

BL, Crane, Poole & Schmidt = entertainment!

Living in the US I have seen the current series of BL.

Not wishing to spoil it for anyone I shall not divulge any plots..

Just to say it is fan-freaking-tastic, and you will laugh your socks off.

I am totally in love with Boston Legal, as I can watch the older episodes on FTN on Monday, and the newest ones on living on Thursdays. I don't think a once a week fix is enough. I simply can't get enough of this piece of brilliance!
