My younger brother, Rob, Creative Product Design student at the University of the West of England, has done an amazing job in winning an award hosted by the Design Council of Great Britain! He was picked out of all of the people on his course to go on a work placement and take part in the scheme, and together with a business student, they managed to design a new product for an established company and present such a solid business case for it that they went through the regional finals and were selected to go through to the national finals. The finals were hosted in London a few weeks ago, where they had just ten minutes to present the design in front of a panel.
The design itself - well, there were actually about four variations - was a visually stunning piece of rendering of a metal mesh frame with handle and wheels for transporting heavy plastic recycling boxes around the home, while vastly improving the aesthetics of what could just be an ugly plastic box by hiding it within the mesh of the product. It's hard to describe it and do it justice without a picture, and although the Design Council haven't yet got an article about it on their own site, there's a news story about it on the UWE website here. I can't say that the text of the article really does much to enthuse or promote Rob's achievement, but at least it's up there on the web for all the world to read.
Well done Rob - extremely proud of you :)
