The aftermath

Where to start - well, in case you've not seen it, James did a great job of summing up those first few hours and included photos here. Since those first few hours, much, and little, has happened. Nathan and I came home on Wednesday evening. I was only too glad to get out of there - staying in hospital is just not pleasant. With the traumas of the birth still fresh in my mind, plus the physical aches and pains, coming home lifted my spirits somewhat.

We've been home now for a while, and I've been on a complete emotional rollercoaster - laughing one moment, crying the next. Hormones are spectacularly powerful things, but this is all just to be expected. I'm aching from feeding him, my post-birth pains are extremely uncomfortable, and the lack of sleep is just so intense (I managed almost 4 hours in total last night - wow!) ... so I'm not exactly feeling my best, but it's all worth it.

All I have to do is look at Nathan and my spirits lift - he has the most gorgeous eyes, and he's just so innocent and adorable! Even at 3am, when he's been feeding non-stop for several hours, I still love him. I had a fabulous moment on Satuday morning as I did a mad dash to Mothercare for some appropriately sized clothing for supporting the feeding equipment - I got back to the car, started the engine, and Kerrang! radio chose that moment to start playing Sweet Child of Mine. The sun was shining, I was driving, the radio was playing an excellent song, and I am now a mother to a gorgeous baby boy.
