8 weeks old

As I write this, Nathan is playing quite happily on his fab new playmat - he's been on there for about an hour now, and he's showing no signs of boredom... I gather (from my recent attendance at the Postnatal Support Group) that this is a bit unusual for someone so young. As it turns out, he's currently the length of the average 16 week old baby (according to the growth charts), the weight of the average 11 week old baby, and a head the size of the average 9-10 week old baby... I guess he was born big, and he's staying that way! Given that James and I are both around the average to below average height, either he's got some tall genes from my Dad's side of the family somehow, or he's going to be fully grown by the time he's 6. I'm sure these things will even out over time - you don't often see children way taller than their parents!

So, the fact that he's playing for so long on his own is a welcome relief - this is hopefully the start of a new trend. Up until now, time spent away from me or James has been spent either sleeping (fairly rare), or crying (Nathan, mummy just wants to make herself a sandwich - please don't complain). He's nearly 2 months old now, and I'm feeling about 10 years older from lack of sleep. I'm really hoping that nighttime sleeping will start to change soon - I'm getting a 3-4 hour long stretch at the start of the night, then on a good night, it's a quick feed followed by a further two hour stretch, then another snack with a snooze before he wakes up properly. A bad night involves a rather longer feed and nappy change in the middle of the night, with less time between feeds... I would love to get to the point where he's able to sleep for a bit longer at a time - I guess that'll happen eventually.

Anyway, this being my first blog in ages, I was bound to get interrupted, and sure enough, he's had enough play time now, so off I go again!
