Routine

So, it's been a while since I last posted. No surprise to anyone who's ever had to live with a 4 month old baby, but I still find myself amazed at the amount of stuff I have to do every day. It's not helped by the fact that we're selling the house, hence I spend 90% of my free time tidying and cleaning the house (note, that "free time" tends to be around half an hour to an hour a day when I can get him to sleep in his cot, and not on my lap!). Aside from the mundane stuff, I've spent a fair amount of time playing around with my Sims to try to unwind. I keep thinking that I ought to be spending time keeping up to date with programming stuff, but I am so constantly exhausted I just can't face it yet! Perhaps in a couple of months I'll see if we can get some kind of childcare in place on a part time basis to give me a bit more space.

Nathan's size (still in the high centiles for weight and height/length) mean that he's a pretty hungry baby, and at 4 months, he's getting very inquisitive about our food. Hands shoot out at the sight of an apple, and as I munch my way through a sandwich, I can see him staring at me. Add that to the constant drooling, and the urge to put everything in his mouth (TV handset has to be the favourite), and the fact that he's not sleeping as well as he used to be and I'm getting the impression that he wants more than just milk.

Thing is, the department of health guidelines recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months - this is for all kinds of reasons, but one of those reasons is to minimise the risk of baby developing allergies. As a result, I'm putting off introducing real food for a couple more weeks if I can, given that I have a milk allergy (properly diagnosed) and some nut problems (suspected peanut and almond allergies). In the meantime, it's a case of keeping my food as far from him as possible and keeping fingers crossed that his late evening feed continues to keep him satisfied until morning (a couple of times recently he didn't feed all that much just before bedtime, which meant he was waking at 3am again - ouch! At the moment, he's sleeping 9:30-5:30ish).

Speaking of food, why am I sitting here writing this instead of making myself a sandwich while he's sleeping? And there's the laundry to do, and tidying to be done...
