When Technology Goes Wrong

A week or so ago I bought a few CDs from Amazon; one item came, the others are due for delivery, possibly tomorrow. Or possibly not at all. The Amazon ordering system is great and usually works well, but today I received two emails from it: the first saying they'd received back the items I wanted a refund for and the second detailing the items and the amount they'd refunded to my credit card. So, who has got these items? If Amazon have got them, then how have they processed a refund when I haven't got a refund number? I certainly haven't received them, nor have I rejected the delivery or sent them back. The order still shows as dispatched. Which bit of their order system has gone wrong?
